Antonio Meloto, Founder of Gawad Kalinga

Social entrepreneur of the year 2012, Skoll Foundation

« I fully support your project Destination Changemakers. I see people in your group as the next generation of young people who want to build a better, a safer planet. We will work together in the Philippines to eradicate poverty and to restore human dignity, and I guess this is an exciting opportunity for us to build new business models together. So I will be your godfather. »

We had the opportunity to meet Antonio Meloto three times in Paris thanks to Olivier Girault, President of Gawad Kalinga Europe, and Antonio Meloto very kindly accepted to become the godfather of our project. Jonas had previously realized a mission with him two years ago in the Philippines.

Antonio Meloto is the kind of person who give life to dreams: “Philippines will rise out of Poverty and Become a First World nation by 2024”. This social entrepreneur, founder of the association Gawad Kalinga, is also a visionary by educating thousands of people around the world to volunturism in order to improve the living conditions of the poorest of the poor.
In addition to fighting against the material needs, he developed a sense of community responsibility in the most disadvantaged populations. Since its inception, Gawad Kalinga has created a home to thousands of squatters or homeless, feed thousands of starving people, reduce crime in the most disadvantaged areas… (source)
